ThinkMarkets—formerly known as ThinkForex—began operations in New Zealand in 2010 before relocating its headquarters to Australia in 2012. The broker is licensed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) under TF Global Markets Pty Ltd, ensuring a high standard of regulatory oversight.
In 2015, ThinkMarkets expanded its global footprint by establishing a London office, which operates under TF Global Markets Limited and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom. Additionally, the company has a parent entity, Think Capital Limited, registered in Bermuda, allowing the broker to offer its services to clients in multiple international jurisdictions.
A major milestone came in May 2017, when ThinkMarkets acquired Trade Interceptor, a widely used third-party mobile trading app. This platform has since been fully integrated into ThinkMarkets, replacing the former ThinkTrader app and providing a more seamless, mobile-optimized trading experience.

MT4 and Platforms
Currently, ThinkMarkets offers two main account types for new clients. Both accounts provide access to the MetaTrader 4 (MT4) platform—renowned for its reliability, comprehensive charting tools, and robust trading capabilities. MT4 users also benefit from the option of a Virtual Private Server (VPS), which enhances execution speed and stability. The VPS is free of charge for clients who meet a specified monthly trading volume.
In addition to MT4, ThinkMarkets provides its proprietary trading platform, the ThinkTrader interface. While it offers a unique and feature-rich experience, it may require some time for users to become fully comfortable due to its distinct layout and tools compared to standard platforms.
Account Types
ThinkMarkets offers three main account types, along with a specialized account tailored for users of the Trade Interceptor platform. Each account is designed to cater to traders with varying levels of experience and capital.
-
Standard Account – With a minimum deposit of $250, this entry-level account is ideal for beginners. It offers a straightforward setup with access to core trading features, including MT4 and ThinkTrader platforms.
-
Pro Account – Aimed at more experienced traders, this account requires a minimum deposit of $2,000. It includes tighter spreads, lower trading costs, and access to enhanced features such as a free VPS (upon meeting volume requirements).
-
VIP Account – Built for high-volume or professional traders, this premium account demands a minimum deposit of $25,000. In return, it offers the most competitive trading conditions, personalized support, and complimentary premium services.
Each account tier scales in features and benefits according to deposit levels, allowing traders to choose the option that best fits their trading style and financial goals.
Spreads
The Standard Account at ThinkMarkets is commission-free, with trading costs built into the spreads. It requires a minimum deposit of USD 250, making it an accessible entry point for beginner traders.
In contrast, the Pro Account is structured for more active traders. It requires a minimum deposit of USD 2,000 and includes a commission of $3 per side, or $6 round turn (RT) per standard lot. This translates to approximately 0.6 pips RT, in addition to the raw market spread.
For example, using spread data published on myfxbook, the average spread on EUR/USD for the ThinkMarkets Pro account during a 48-hour window (from June 6 to June 8, 2017) was 1.0 pip. When factoring in the RT commission of 0.6 pips, the total cost of a trade comes to approximately 1.6 pips—which remains competitive compared to many industry peers.
This cost structure gives traders transparency and the flexibility to choose between all-inclusive spreads (Standard) or tighter raw spreads with commissions (Pro), depending on their trading style.
Customer Support
ThinkMarkets operates a fairly standard customer support system. While there have been occasional complaints regarding responsiveness, most users report that the support team is courteous and helpful once connected. Overall, the broker maintains a reliable level of service, aiming to assist clients efficiently with their queries and concerns.
